Michelle Obama Just Released a Female-Empowerment Song with Some Pretty Amazing Women
Michelle Obama, First Lady, lawyer, writer, and activist, has just made her first official foray into the music industry by releasing an actual #FeminstSong on iTunes, ahead of her keynote speech at Austin’s South by Southwest festival.
FLOTUS commissioned the song for her “Let Girls Learn” education initiative, partnering with an all-star lineup of female pop stars including Missy Elliott,Zendaya,Janelle Monaé,Kelly Rowland,Kelly Clarkson, andLea Michele. Called “This Is for My Girls,” the track was written by world-famous songwriter Diane Warren and produced by AOL Makers. “It’s kind of like ‘We Are the World’ meets ‘Lady Marmalade’ with these strong voices and strong women,” Warren explained to Billboard.“Aside from being great singers, they’re all strong women. Like Kelly Clarkson, she doesn’t take shit from anybody, you know? None of these girls do. And how cool is it that Missy Elliott is on it? Her rap is amazing. She wrote the rap. I left that to her. The rap is really inspired on it,” she added.
