Love Island's Laura Crane on Contracting Life-Threatening Sepsis | Lorraine
Love Island's Laura Crane has been sent home after 10 days in hospital with sepsis
Update - 08/11/18:
Ten days after she was admitted to hospital with sepsis, Love Island's Laura Crane has been discharged. In a post on Instagram, the professional surfer-come-reality star shared the news, adding that the past few days had been "the worst week of my life".
"When I fell ill last Tuesday with a temperature never did I think it was about to be a week as scary as it has been," she wrote.
"Being someone that never really gets ill, I never thought that something like this would happen to me, however, it has taught me how important it is to listen to your body because it can so quickly turn fatal if you don’t look for the vital signs."
Now, Laura is looking forward to getting home where she's expected to make a "slow recovery", and says she'll be "back stronger than ever" when she regains full health.
Original story - 02/11/18:
Love Island 2019 star Laura Crane was rushed to hospital with sepsis earlier this week - a condition that can be life threatening.
23-year-old Laura, a professional surfer who found short-term love with fellow contestant Jack Fowler, fell ill on Tuesday, and was quickly diagnosed with the dangerous illness.
A representative for the reality star told : "Laura is sadly quite unwell. She was rushed in on Tuesday and they quickly diagnosed sepsis."
Sepsis, the NHS explains, is "a serious complication of an infection. Without quick treatment, sepsis can lead to multiple organ failure."
Laura's rep explained that "it’s taking time to control her temperature and rid her blood of the infection, but it had spread quite rapidly." The spokesperson described it as "a scary time for her and her family", and added that they were all "praying she makes a full recovery in the next couple of days."
It is possible to recover from sepsis if the infection doesn't spread to your organs. The speed with which a person recovers from the condition depends on the severity of the disease, the person's overall level of health, how long they have been in hospital and whether they were sent to intensive care.
And indicating she's hopefully on the up, Laura has been posting pictures to her Instagram account today.
