These festive holiday hazelnut cookies require just a few simple ingredients to make.

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. brandy or water
1 3/4 c. all purpose flour
1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
3 tbsp. water
- Base dough:Beat butter and sugar until light and creamy. Beat in egg, then add brandy. Beat in flour. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Process hazelnuts in food processor until finely chopped. Stir nuts into one half of dough. Shape dough into a 12" log, wrap in plastic wrap, and freeze until firm for easy slicing.
- Grease baking sheets. Slice dough into 1/4-inch-thick slices, cut each slice in half to make half-moon shape, and place on baking sheet 1/2 inch apart. Bake 10 to 13 minutes, until golden. Cool on wire racks.
- Glaze:Whisk together the 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar and cocoa powder. Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons water, until smooth and glossy. Dip cookies in glaze, covering 1/2 of cookie, letting extra glaze drip into bowl. Place on cooling rack until glaze is set. Makes 78 cookies.
